Oily Face Treatment: Nip Acne In The Bud

Having a proven oily face treatment is one of the sure ways of taking care of acne even before it starts. I used to joke that if I could mine the oil in my skin, I would be rich. Yes, I do have an oily face, but as I have gotten older I have realized that having oily skin does have a benefit. It does not age as quickly as dry skin. I have very few wrinkles for my age. It’s about time the bane of my teenage years did me some good.

I am fortunate that I did not have severe acne as a teen, but I was troubled by some breakouts and a perpetually shiny face. No doubt this was not helped by living in a very warm climate. I used astringents, blotting papers and Corn Silk loose powder to control the oil slick that was my face.

Approaching Oily Face Treatment With Care

Oily Face TreatmentCertainly you need to keep oily skin very clean, but don’t be tempted to use a harsh oily skin cleansing agent. It will just encourage more oil production. Your skin should not feel tight or dry after cleansing. Oily skin encourages enlarged pores and is prone to blackheads. A mild exfolliant two times a week will help with this as will clay based facial masks.

Why do you have oily skin and such needing oily face treatment? Heredity is a factor as is diet, hormone levels, heat, humidity, and products you use. Of course hormones are a factor for teenagers and acne may resurface during pregnancy due to hormones as well.

Diet plays some part in oily skin as well, but not as much as previously thought. I remember being told that soft drinks, French fries, chocolate, and pizza caused acne. While these foods are not ideal in a healthy diet, consuming them in moderation will probably not be harmful.

You want to be sure to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and avoid excess salt, fat and sugar. Excess is the key word here. Your doctor will tell you that eating a varied diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables, protein, and using cold pressed oils such as olive oil will benefit your health in general and make oily face treatment even more straight forward.

Oily Face Treatment: Using Natural Products

Oily Face TreatmentThere is a lot of emphasis on natural products in oily face treatment these days and in truth some of your grandmother’s home remedies may have some benefit. Aloe Vera is soothing and healing for the skin and some people even use it as one of acne treatments solutions. Misting with lavender water can reduce oiliness and witch hazel is an excellent astringent.

My mother was a huge fan of steaming her face. She would put some herbs in a bowl of very warm water, drape a towel over her head and have a little facial sauna for about fifteen minutes. Just be careful and don’t have your face too close to the water. Follow with a cool rinse, if you want to try this oily face treatment. Just be careful and don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Don’t hate your oily face. Keep it clean, eat a healthy diet, and you’ll be rewarded with less wrinkles when you get older. But for now, considering a good oily face treatment will ensure you control acne before it starts.
